Four young lads once stood together against bullies to save a boy. They became his friends but as they grew up, they gradually lost touch with him. As men, the four gather each year to go hunting in the Maine woods.  But then a man stumbles into their cabin, lost and muttering wildly about lights in the sky – he’s very ill and they do their best to care for him in the snowbound lodge. The man heralds the arrival of a terrible creature from another world, and their only chance of survival is locked in ‘Duddits’, the special boy they rescued so long ago.  This story is from King’s writing period of ‘unusual’ heroes.
