The history of Rangi Ruru Girls School in Christchurch, New Zealand, from 1889 – 1989.  A school is like a family, its events and people all interconnected, each one having some influence on the whole… The school grew out of the educational ferment of Christchurch in the 1880s. It was believed that girls could ‘wait’ for an education but the Independent Woman was stirring. Removed from the traditions of ‘Home’ and dropped, sometimes unwillingly, into the harsher conditions of early Christchurch girls began to demand the privileges of their brothers.
