From the critically acclaimed ABC documentary series. Salinity is an unfolding ecological disaster and Australia is now in the grip of a serious environmental crisis.  The problem is not confined to rural areas – the urban infrastructure is also slowly been ground down by salt and a staggering repair bill is coming.  Drinking water in cities is threatened; the wheat belt of WA has up to 10,000 tonnes of salt under every hectare; the felling of 15 billion trees in the Murray-Darling basis is directly linked to the rise in salinity, yet land clearing continues.  This is not sci-fi – this is happening.
