In ancient times it was a pagan altar, washed by the blood of human sacrifice.  Then it was hidden for centuries until it was possessed by a spirit.  Spirit and stone fused – to take on the shape of an angel. The Bishop of Norwich was awed.  This twelve foot perfectly carved angel must surely be a miracle, and he duly installed it with pomp and ceremony in his new cathedral.  Then the disappearances started.  An angel, certainly, but not for the forces of good.  Abaddon – the Angel of the Pit – has entered his effigy and he lies in the heart of Norwich Cathedral, his terrible power building day by day.
