From an early age Jimmy spent most of his time with the older members of his tribe, the Muruwari of north-western New South Wales, listening to their stories, songs, their wisdom and learning bush lore. but this happy life came to an end when Jimmie, his mother, brother and many of their friends were compulsorily moved to a government reserve. It was the start of years of suffering and struggle. Jimmie survived and became uniquely equipped to deal with the effect of white settlement and white government on his people – he became a member of two separate worlds.
