Banafsheh was only eight years old when revolution erupted in her country, Iran. At first her family was filled with hope as the Shah's rule collapsed and the Ayatollah Khomeini made his triumphant return.  But they quickly realised they had traded a dictator for a far more ruthless leader.  Her parents, Kamal and Nina, struggled with the harsh new laws as life in Tehran began to spin out of control. The came to fear for the safety of their children and themselves, until they made the toughest of all decisions - to flee their beloved country, leaving their family and friends behind - and the only way left for them to take was the dangerous route across the Turkish mountains.
