  • Book I of Xanth. Xanth was the enchanted land where magic ruled - where every citizen had a special spell only he could cast. It was a land of centaurs and dragons and basilisks. For Bink of North Village, however, Xanth was no fairy tale. He alone had no magic. And unless he got some - and got some fast! - he would be exiled. Forever! But the Good Magician Humfrey was convinced that Bink did indeed have magic. In fact, both Beauregard the genie and the magic wall chart insisted that Bink had magic. Magic as powerful as any possessed by the King or by Good Magician Humfrey - or even by the Evil Magician Trent. Be that as it may, no one could fathom the nature of Bink's very special magic. Bink was in despair. This was even worse than having no magic at all..and he would still be exiled! Cover art by Michael Whelan.
  • Book II of Incarnations of Immortality. In a world where physics and magic flow side by side, the Incarnation of Time is a potentially powerful figure. But Chronos is fated to perform his task backwards: he begins his career at its end - as a complete novice, ill-equipped to cope with the subtle schemes of Satan, Father of Lies and Illusion. It was after the death of the child he had fathered and the suicide of the woman he loved, that Norton accepted the role of time and took up the power-filled hourglass. But his terrible loss, combined with his awesome capabilities, makes him peculiarly vulnerable to Satan's wiles.

More usually found as a fossil, here Burgess is alive to his tentacle-tips and soon has a place in the company of friends as they travel through the now-fragmented Modes and is a guard against the evil grip of the mind-predator that pursues Colene. But the predator is full of tricks and Hlahatar lies beyond the terrifying Chaos Mode...Cover art by Steve Crisp.
  • Aton's crime was simple. He loved a Minionette. All worlds despised and feared this almost mythical siren but no creature anywhere could tell him why. In the brutally hot, subterranean garnet caves of chthon to which he had been condemned, Aton sought an answer. And when he could not find it - he determined to seek it elsewhere. No man had ever escaped Chthon and lived. But the Minionette called. Aton had to have his answer. Anthony's first published book, written over seven years, some during his Army service.
  • Book VII of Xanth. There was trouble in Xanth again—all kinds of trouble, in fact. The Gap Dragon had escaped from the Gap and was ravaging across the land. The forget-spell that had covered the Gap was breaking up into small forget-whorls that wandered about, giving amnesia to all they touched. Good Magician Humfrey might have had the Answer, but he had overdosed on water from the Fountain of Youth and was only a helpless baby. And Ivy, three-year old daughter of King Dor and Queen Irene, was lost in the jungles south of the Gap. While Irene sought her without much hope, Ivy was wandering further into danger, her memories erased by a passing forget-whorl. Her path was leading her directly to where the Gap Dragon was seeking dinner. Cover art by Darrell K. Sweet.

  • Book XVIII of Xanth: Way down upon the Swan Knee River is the home of a steadfast gargoyle called Gary, who is in for some exciting times when Good Magician Humfrey sends him off on a year of service in exchange for modifying his geis - the duty that only he can perform. Gary's temporary task is that of tutor to a surprising little girl called Surprise, aided by the powerful Sorceress Iris, rejuvenated to a seductive 23...Turned into a human to make his new duties possible, Gary begins to wonder if he may have taken on too much. Quite apart from missing his wings and having to walk on his hind legs (the trick is to trot at all times) he also has to cope with Demoness Mentia and her rather perverse sense of humour - as well as Iris's all-too-alluring habits. But it's his own quest that leads them all into the city they call Stone Hinge in the realm of Madness, a perilous region where everything is its opposite and magic is even stronger than it is in the rest of Xanth. As the citizens of Xanth are transformed and the illusions become first deceptive and then downright dangerous, steadfast Gary Gargoyle is the unexpected hero of the day. Cover art by Mike Posen.
