  • Book IV of Incarnations of Immortality. This was a world where both science and magic worked and where magic carpets competed in the market with shiny new cars. The Incarnations of Death, Fate, Time, War, and Nature were real beings caught up in a continuing effort to defeat the wiles of Satan. Mym was prince of a province in still-divided India - a dutiful son, but when the Rajah interfered in his love life for the third time, it was just too much. Rather than give in to the Rajah's wedding plans, he agreed to assume the office of War and wield the Red Sword. For a time he was quite happy, believing that his efforts in the constant petty Earth wars could ameliorate some of the injustice and suffering.  But he soon became aware that behind all his involvement were the traps of Satan, designed to lead him astray. Working in secret, he organised a great rebellion among the Damned, and Satan seemed to capitulate. But he soon learned that the episode was just another snare of Satan...Cover art by Michael Whelan.

  • Book V of the Xanth series. Smash knew all about ogres. After all, despite his having a human mother, Smash was an Ogre himself. Ogres were not only huge and horribly ugly, as Smash was; they were also so stupid they could hardly speak, and they spent most of their time fighting, destroying, and eating young girls. So what was he doing here with seven assorted females looking to him to guide them and save them? Even in Xanth, where magic made anything possible, why should Tandy the Nymph trust him and seem fond of him? And how could all that high-flown conversation be coming out of his mouth? But that, it seemed, was what he got for going to Good Magician Humphrey for an Answer - before he even knew what the Question was! Cover art by Darrell K. Sweet.
  • Book III of Magic of Xanth. Heaven Cent to Mundania - a most odd and unexpected destination for Princess Ivy, elder sister of Prince Dolph and future King of Xanth - though of course the totally unexpected is pretty much the usual in Xanth. Meeting Grey Murphy was one lucky consequence for her, and something of a relief for him. His computer has been setting him up with some very unsuitable girls.  The lovely Salmonella, for instance - delicious food but problems later! But there are questions: Is Grey a real Mundane? Or could he be connected to the Evil Magician Murphy? And his magic talent?  He's got to have one to become Ivy's Queen. In the magic, muddling world of Xanth, the path of true love, or untrue love - or anything else - is never going to be smooth.
  • Book IV of Incarnations of Immortality. Mym was a dutiful son, but his father the Rajah interfered in his love life just once too often. Rather than wed without love, he took up the Red Sword symbol of office of the Incarnation of War. At first he thought his efforts would ameliorate some of the suffering caused by Earth's petty and constant wars. But he found that behind all his involvement were the clever traps of Satan.  When seeming mischance placed him in hell, Mym organised a great rebellion among the Damned. Satan seemed to capitulate - but once free, Mym learned that Satan had been busy stirring up riots and war.  It seemed that things had gone to far and Satan would win.  But there is still one desperate chance...  Books in this series are 'stand alone' reads.
  • Book II of Incarnations of Immortality. In a world where physics and magic flow side by side, the Incarnation of Time is a potentially powerful figure. But Chronos is fated to perform his task backwards: he begins his career at its end - as a complete novice, ill-equipped to cope with the subtle schemes of Satan, Father of Lies and Illusion. It was after the death of the child he had fathered and the suicide of the woman he loved, that Norton accepted the role of time and took up the power-filled hourglass. But his terrible loss, combined with his awesome capabilities, makes him peculiarly vulnerable to Satan's wiles.
  • Book I of Mode. Colene is attractive, intelligent and popular, but she's also a young woman who is screwed up, depressed and suicidal. On the outside she sparkles, on the inside her soul is rotting.  The idea of death represents freedom but she can't bring herself to take the final plunge.  Then on day she finds an unconscious man by the roadside, with no identification.  He's injured, so she helps him, as he seems very strange and speaks a strange language.  She learns to communicate with him and finds out that his name is Darius and he is a ruler of part of his world in a universe where magic works.  But the source of his magic is dwindling and he's desperate to find a partner to help him replenish his power...and he's dared the infinite network of worlds to find his partner. • Book I of Bio Of A Space Tyrant. Though he was later accused of every crime and sexual perversion in the galaxy, Hope Hubris began as an innocent. Because he defended his older sister against the violent lusts of a wealthy scion, Hope and his peasant family were forced to flee Callisto, one of the moons of Jupiter. Pursued by the bloodthirsty scions across the airless desert, they barely escaped with their lives. The illegal space bubble was overcrowded with refugees, all hoping to reach Jupiter for asylum. But the space travelers had not reckoned on the terrible threat of high space-the pirates, barbaric men who rape, rob, and murder, with no thought but to satisfy their bestial appetites. It will take all Hope's ingenuity to survive, but the atrocities he witnesses will never die. There is only one way he can be rid of them...Cover art by Alan Craddock.
  • Book XVII of The Chronicles Of Xanth. Gloha is the prettiest goblin-harpy in Xanth. She is also the only one, which creates problems when she decides it's time to find a boyfriend. Winged goblins - no  matter how charming - don't have an obvious appeal to any of Xanth's eligible bachelors. But thanks to the Good Magician, Gloha has professional help at hand. He rejuvenates 96 year old King Emeritus Trent, the one-time Evil Magician, so he looks like his devastatingly handsome young self. Then he sends Trent and Gloha off to find the perfect husband. All goes well - until Gloha falls in love with Trent... Cover art by Mick Posen.
