During the Great Depression, zany heiress Irene Bullock (Carole Lombard) finds down and out tramp Godfrey (William Powell) while on a party scavenger hunt. As a  “forgotten man“, Godfrey is the winning find in the hunt, thus helping Irene beat her sister. But he tells the rich frivolous Bright Young Things exactly what he thinks of them and their antics. Irene, realising she’s caused offence, asks Godfrey to take the position of butler to the household, which he readily accepts.  And he is very competent and resourceful indeed. It seems that Godfrey has a few secrets, but a lot has to happen before the secret is out! Nominated for 6 Academy Awards in 1937; and in 1999 this film was deemed as culturally significant by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.
