U. S. Navy Lieutenant Gregg Masterman learnt about the sea while winning silver cups sailing his yacht. During the early months  of U.S. involvement in World War II, he climbs swiftly in rank, and is now enjoying an easy posting as Junior Aide to Rear Admiral Stephen ‘Old Iron Pants’ Thomas. Lieutenant Commander Martin Roberts  enlisted in World War I and worked his way up gradually, now serving as Executive Officer of the destroyer Cranshaw. Rear Admiral Thomas raises him to command of the destroyer Warren, a recommissioned World War I ‘bucket’. Masterman makes fun of Roberts’ new command – and then finds himself assigned to the Warren as Executive Officer – under Roberts. And now, Masterman must face the realities of war… Black and white film.
