  • Fritz Lang's classic sci-fi story is set in the new millennium of Metropolis - a city of skyscrapers, highways in the sky, expansive stadiums...the home of the wealthy industrialists and business magnates and their top employees, the   'thinkers', who have the ability to make plans and devise schemes but lack the ability to make them real. The 'workers' are the ones driven to exhaustion  creating the thinkers' visions, living underground and toiling to operate the gigantic machines that power the great city. When the son of the city's master sees the beautiful Maria, a woman from the workers showing some children how their rich brothers live, he follows her and discovers that not only is Maria a beacon of hope for the workers, he sees that appalling conditions under which the workers toil.  The time has come for revolution - but events are further complicated by a half-crazed, love-sick inventor who creates a destructive, murderous robot with Maria's likeness.
