  • Jerry Morgan is a ventriloquist with a long trail of disastrous romances behind him - every time the affair gets close to marriage, his doll - Clarence - get jealous and spiteful and spoils it all! His fianceè walks out on him; his manager threatens to quit unless he sees a psychiatrist - and in a fury Jerry smashes Clarence and Terrance. He does see a psychiatrist - and they begin to fall in love. Jerry's doll-maker, Papinek, creates two new dolls for him but what Jerry doesn't know is that Papinek is a spy who's stolen the top secret plans for the Lafayette airplane. When he learns that Jerry is leaving for Zurich, Papinek hides the plans in Jerry's dolls - and there's a spy ring at the other end waiting to get their hands on Jerry's luggage! Confusion and pratfalls ensue as Jerry is chased by the spies and the police -who think he's committed  a double murder!

Tired of losing gigs to the 'Perennials', Artie Shaw ( playing himself) steals the competent Ellen away to be his booking manager. And now the rivals begin to scheme to get themselves into Shaw's band - each determined to  out-play the other! Light musical comedy.
