  • While on holiday in 1925, four year-old Michael Tolkien lost his beloved toy dog on the beach. To console him, his father J,R,R, Tolkien improvised a story about Rover, a real dog who is transformed into a toy and who must seek out the wizard who wronged him in order to be returned to normal. There's a sand-sorcerer and a terrible dragon; the king of the sea and the Man-In-The Moon; and the story went through several drafts over the years. Now the  adventures of Rover - or, for reasons that will become clear in the story, Roverandom - are published. Illustrated by J.R.R. Tolkien.
  • Sauron, the Dark Lord, has gathered the Rings of Power - the means by which he will rule the world. All he lacks to complete his domination is the One Ring, the Ruling Ring - which has fallen into the hands of Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit of the Shire. In the sleepy village in the Shire, young Frodo Baggins finds himself faced with an immense task. The Ring is entrusted to his care and he must leave the Shire he loves and make a dangerous journey across Middle-Earth, to the Crack of Doom, deep inside the territories of the Dark Lord.  Here he must destroy the Ring and foil the evil plot of Sauron. He will find friends and help along the way, sometimes where he least expects it - but he must conquer himself in order to destr0y Sauron. Cover art by John Howe.
  • The armies of the Dark Lord are massing as his evil shadow spreads ever wider. Men, Dwarves, Elves and Ents unite to do battle against the Dark as Frodo and Sam struggle further into Mordor in the frantic quest to destroy the One Ring.
  • The Three Silmarils were jewels created by Feanor, most gifted of the Elves.  Within them was imprisoned the Light of the Two Trees of Valinor before the Trees were destroyed by Morgoth, the first Dark Lord. The jewels were seized by Morgoth for his crown, guarded in the fortress of Angband in Middle-earth.  This is the tale of the rebellion of Feanor and his kindred against the Gods, their exile from Valinor and their return to Middle-earth.
