84 Charing Cross Road: Helene Hanff

The entertaining correspondence between Helene Hanff, New York freelance writer and Frank Doel, English bookseller that springs up when Helene begins buying books after spotting an advertisement in a New York newspaper.  She learns about life in post-World War II England; and the staff of the bookshop come to love Helene for her generosity and free spirit. Also includes The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street, an account of Helene's adventures when she finally visits England to walk the hallowed paths where the literary greats she admires once walked. Made into a film starring Ann Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins.
