A massive, sacred golden menorah is taken from Jerusalem's Holy Temple during the final sack of the city. Carried in triumph through Rome, it came to represent the Empire's ruthless conquest of the world. When the Roman Empire moved to Constantinople, the menorah went with it. But it vanished when the Crusaders plundered the city in 1204. Present day: archeologist Jack Howard begins an exploratory dive in Istanbul's harbour, hoping to uncover Crusader relics, including the menorah. But he discovers something quite different. Meanwhile, a long-forgotten medieval map comes to light in a dusty cathedral library in England. Both discoveries could change the way history is seen.
