Kirk DOuglas (1916 - 2020) could not only act just about everyone out of the set, but he could turn a good fictional tale as well. Danny Dennison, the only surviving member of a Jewish family destroyed by the Nazis, tries to escape his past by masquerading as an anti-Semite. Although he becomes a successful Hollywood director, his personal life is in turmoil. He's married to an alcoholic, suicidal heiress; he cannot save his beautiful teenage daughter from the corrupting influence of her vicious billionaire grandfather who is bent on destroying Danny's career; and at the point when the turbulent elements of bis life threaten to crush him, he is bewitched by Luba, a beautiful prostitute. She inadvertently confronts him with the secrets of his past and forces him to see his own distorted image.
