A fisherman is paid in valuable pearls for transporting a beautiful woman to a remote island - pearls so beautiful and valuable that when the fisherman uses them to pay the pier-master, they excite the greed of treasure hunters and the interest of of an anthropologist. They locate the mysterious island, inhabited by people with large pearlised eyes who can stay underwater for great lengths of time and who welcome the visitors - as they need humans with which to mate and perpetuate their strange race....
