In 1980 apartheid South Africa, a bomb damages a synthetic fuel refinery in Secunda. Because he cannot explain his whereabouts on the night of the bombing (having been away secretly visiting his mistress), Patrick Chamusso, an apolitical, hard-working South African oil refinery foreman is arrested and subjected to brutal torture.The ruthless interrogator, Police Colonel Nic Vos, eventually realizes Patrick is innocent and releases him. However, Vos pushes things too far by also detaining and brutalizing Patrick's wife, Precious.  Fueled by a burning rage over the injustice and violence inflicted upon his family, an apolitical Patrick abandons his quiet life and joins Umkhonto we Sizwe, the military wing of the African National Congress (ANC). Also stars Bonnie Mbuli and Mncedisi Shabangu.
