The Killing Fields: Sydney Schanberg, correspondent to The New York Times is sent to Cambodia in 1972 to cover the growing war between the revolutionary Khmer Rouge and the Government. He meets Dith Pran, who becomes his trusted assistant, interpreter, troubleshooter and friend. When the Khmer Rouge troops enter Phnom Penh in April 1975, Pran throws himself on their mercy to save the lives of Schanberg and several other foreign correspondents. What foolows for Pran and all Cambodians is an unspeakable horror. While Schanberg spends four and half years seeking news of his friend, nearly half the population of 7 million are massacred by the Khmer Rouge or die of starvation and disease.
