In 1869, Edison travelled to New York to seek financiers to develop his ideas, but it's a struggle. His break came when he was able to sell an improved ticker-tape machine, enabling him to marry and open his own laboratory at Menlo Park to work on his new venture, the phonograph. But trouble comes when his friend Bunt Cavatt announces to the press that Edison has invented the electric light, leading to Edison's condemnation by the scientific community.
