Tom Stewart is an ambitious crime reporter - which means digging up facts that many would prefer stay buried. And there's a few who'd like someone Tom has - the unethical detective sergeant Ray Birch who is looking for information on a robbery. During the investigation, Tom meets Morris Martin, a man mourning the accidental death of his wife Claudine. But Morris develops the erratic idea that his friends are keeping Claudine, who is alive and being kept hidden. One by one, Morris tracks his friends down and kills them - and Tom uses his newspaper connections to dig a little deeper to find a real surprise twist in the case - together with the realisation that Morris AND Birch are after him...
