Detectives Nick Walker and partner Bobby Hayes steal a stash of gold during a drug bust but Nick regrets the theft and tells Hayes that he will turn it in as evidence. Hayes murders Nick under the cover of a drug bust and Nick is offered a choice of judgment or recruitment into the Rest In Peace Department - whose job is to find and capture Deados, the souls of people who died but escaped judgment.  and it's a wild ride when he's tamed with Roycephalus, a former Wild West lawman. They discover that the stolen stash of gold is part of an artifact called the Staff of Jericho, which can reverse the tunnel to the afterlife...and the Deados want it opened!
