When a bolt of lightning hits a sophisticated weapons robot, it escapes and sets off on a journey of education - and philosophy! Number 5 IS alive! In an effort to receive 'input' he invades Stephanie Speck's food van and when she takes him in, he gets all the input he wants from television and encyclopedias. But the scientist who created him, Newtown Crosby, thinks Number 5's antics are simply imitation rather than life and wants to take him apart to see what the malfunction is; Nova Robotics, the company that owns him, want him recovered before the weapons he carries kill; and ex-marine chief security officer Captain Skroeder just wants to blow him up. Can Stephanie and Number 5 convince everyone that life is not a malfunction before Number 5 is disassembled? And then there's Stephanie's ex-boyfriend Frank who thinks he can make some bucks on the side. Also stars G.W. Bailey, Austin Pendleton and Fisher Stevens.
