Lasse lives with is wife and two sons in a comfortable middle class home which is shattered when a tragic car accident on a road trip to visit the grandparents results in the death of his wife and younger son. Lasse struggles with his grief and guilt and finally attempts to take his own life despite the needs of his surviving son. Horrified at his selfishness Lasse and Jonas go to their summer house in Stockholm's archipelago in the hope that the sunshine and the small island community can offer comfort and the hope of healing.
