The tale of three men - Bluey, Milo and Pete - as they leave behind the life of drovers to join the Army and serve together in North Africa, fighting against the forces of Rommel to become members of one of Australia's greatest wartime legends: The Rats of Tobruk. Fun facts: Shooting took place in late 1943. Taylor, Rafferty and Finch were all serving in the Australian army and played their parts on leave. A set representing the town of Tobruk was constructed in a field near Camden, west of Sydney. The Cronulla Beach sandhills stood in for the African desert and embarkation scenes were filmed in Watson's Bay.
