In 1943, David and Jim are U.S. Navy crew members on the USS Eldridge, a ship modified by naval experts as part of a project called the Philadelphia Experiment. The ship disappears from the radar screen and the crew experiences a hellish transition 40 years into the future. David and Jim try to shut down the generator but when they receive electrical shocks they leap overboard - to land in a desert in the year 1984. The mastermind of the original project is still experimenting and when he discovers there's a survivor, he wants that survivor. Because his new experiment, a shield that protects against an ICBM attack, has linked across time and dimension with the Eldridge inside a vortex and that vortex is growing...
