Joel Fleishman is a new medical college graduate who, due to a clause in the small print of his scholarship contract, finds himself in the remote and decidedly bizarre Alaskan town of Cecily. Warmly welcomed by the town's founder Maurice Minnifield, an ex-NASA astronaut and the collection  of misfits and eccentrics that make up the town, Joel finds it increasingly hard to leave the town.
