Flightless Falcon: Mickey Zucker Reichert

Tamison is a flightless falcon: a worthless man who cannot even work to feed his family. Once a miner like the rest of his kin, he lost his nerve after a cave in that trapped him and killed his father and brother. Now he's reduced to occasional menial labour and scavenging. He breaks into the hunter's guild for food and is sent to prison for four years. Upon his release he finds his wife and children have been stolen by the Brotherhood. He renames himself Sueldan and searches for his family, aided by a ratty stray dog, a fortune teller with magical abilities, a renegade guard who has lost his sister to the Brotherhood and a mysterious conman who knows more than he's letting on.
