Amusing and insightful excursion into Australia's outback before the Second World War, at a time when camel trains were not yet replaced by mechanized transport, and most station work was done on horseback. A fantastic series of sketches by Hatfield, an Englishman who worked his passage as a steward then jumped ship upon arrival in Australia in 1912, took off into the outback on foot and had any number of jobs - station-hand, stockman, drover, cook, horse-breaker, kangaroo-shooter, dingo-trapper, book-keeper, seaman, miner, fruit-picker, painter and timber-worker - and eventually fulfilled his ambition to become a full time writer and journalist. He is also known for Australia Through The Windscreen.
