Book I of The Demon Child trilogy. The Sisters of the Blade rule Medalon with an army of elite defenders to enforce their oppressive rule and keep their neighbours out. R'shiel Tenragan, daughter of the First Sister Joyhinia, and her half brother Tarja find themselves caught up in their mother's political intrigues. R'shiel is to be shipped off to a neighbouring Kingdom and Tarja has defied Joyhinia's orders at the cost of his freedom. Together they flee the Citadel, Travelling into unknown parts of the realm, they hear a rumour that the magical race of Harshini is not extinct - a Harshini outcast, Brak, is searching for the demon child, the half-human offspring of the legendary Lorandranek. Caught up in the rebellion against the Sisterhood, R'shiel and Tarja cross paths with Brak and become involved in his quest, setting in motion a chain of events none of them can control.
