Missus: Ruth Park

Missus is the prequel to Harp in the South and Poor Man's Orange and tells of the courtship and marriage of Mumma and Hughie Darcy - an event later romanticised out of all proportion by both Mumma and Hughie in the later books! It is set in a time of annual works outings on the river, wearing corsets to picnics and Christmas pudding eating contests - a slower era long gone from the Australian social landscape.
