Book III of Dominions of Irth. Reece, hero of The Dark Shore and The Shadow Eater, has at last found a kind of peace; his magic is gone and h lives with his love, Jyoti, margravine of New Arwar. Together they have constructed a new dominion from the wreckage of the old. But Dogbrick, Reece's trusted friend remains lost on the Dark Shore and there is a new outbreak of Goblin Wars: goblins - warped, revolting creatures from a higher world beyond the World's End - are inflicting bloody carnage on the Dominions, using trolls and basilisks as their weapons. Reece leaves Jyoti to face the menace alone while he attempts to return to the Dark Shore but his efforts are thwarted by the sisterhood of witches, who insist that he alone can oppose the goblins. On the Dark Shore - otherwise known as Earth - Nox, the leader of the Octoberland coven, has sensed a presence from the Bright World - Dogbrick. Octoberland is dedicated to weaving ancient black magic and preserving the life of its centuries-old leader. Dogbrick's Charm-laden life will be sacrificed to grant Nox immortality and provide a link to the Bright World.
