On The Wallaby is Aussie for being unemployed, of no fixed address and travelling in search of work. But this chronicle is that of a quest for the rare, the beautiful and new experience. Barrett went far afield, throughout the length and breadth of Australia, he voyaged the Nile, trekked the haunting jungles of Bali, home of the rare orchid - and visited the Holy Land as a soldier, naturalist, writer and archaeologist.
Rare orchids were also found in Australia’s 'Never Never' and Barrett found interesting things and rare orchids, other plants, birds and reptiles. Early chapters give autobiographical glimpses of his boyhood. With black and white photographs.
