He was advised that teachers were needed and despite not having qualifications in that field, he took on the job of teaching the tough East End teenagers - in his own unique way. He struggles with them until he realises they don't need spelling, Latin or mathematics - instead, he teaches them that decency, respect for themselves and others and changing the world without violence is their path to success.
