Left penniless after the death of their father and hardly educated enough to earn a living, Beatrice and Evangeline turn their talents to dressmaking after ladies of fashion admire their re-modelling of their father's wardrobe for their own wear. As if establishing a business wasn't an uphill struggle for two girls in the early 1920s, they also have to contend with an interfering aunt and a scheming cousin, a raffish society photographer, wholesalers unwilling to trust them and a bank manager who feels they should just get married. They must rise above it all - as well as socialites, competitive fashion houses, employees and the  dark secret their father had managed to hide from them.
