There has always been mystery surrounding the disappearance of the son of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette. It was widely believed that he had been rescued from the Temple after the executions of his royal parents and while his uncle later claimed the title of King Louis XVIII, both he and Charles X believed the child to be alive in Carinthia. The former Dauphin, who would have been Louis XVII married and produced a son - in the Bourbon family line, Louis XIX. Through fragments of entries Cardinal Beneventy's diary the author has formed a coherent story that may be the real events of those turbulent times.
